Our Preparation
“If it be right that a soul
who feels itself called to Divine Intimacy appreciate and long for
contemplation, it cannot be wrong for it to try to prepare itself for it. Many
souls are refused this grace by God simply because He does not find them
suitable disposed. It is necessary for us to work, so that we shall not be
deprived of contemplation through our own fault. On the other hand, if we have
done all that depends on us as best we can, we should not fear that our work
will be wasted; sooner or later in one way or another, the Lord will always
give us to drink. Contemplation is a
free gift of God; it requires generosity on our part. Souls who are not
generous are precisely the ones who will never experience it. God refuses to
force our will; He takes what we give Him. But He will not give Himself wholly
until we have given ourselves wholly to Him. We should not intend to make
contemplation the end of our spiritual life; the goal is always Love, for sanctity consists essentially in the
perfection of charity.” -Divine Intimacy; St. Teresa of Avila-

International Baccalaureate: is an
internationally run program from Geneva, Switzerland that demands from America’s children, allegiance to the United
Nations rather than to the United
States. The program includes changing
students’ values, attitudes and beliefs to embrace globalism, pro-homosexual
endorsement, social justice, population control, health and radical
environmentalism. It also relies on “constructivism” which is a euphemism for,
“there is no truth; truth is made up according to how one desires to see it.”
Approximately 42,000 schools in the United States are using this
program, including a number of Catholic schools.- EdWatch-
April
17, 2008: Pope Benedict’s incredible visit to the United States
included direction to the Catholic Institutions of Learning in this country, as
he stated that any Catholic school not teaching the Truth of Jesus Christ is
not living up to their Catholic identity. Among the statements made were, “Do we really believe that only in the
mystery of the Word made flesh does the mystery of man truly become clear? Are
we ready to commit our entire self - intellect and will, mind and heart - to
God? Do we accept the truth Christ reveals? Is the faith tangible in our
universities and schools? Is it given fervent expression liturgically, sacramentally, through prayer, acts of charity, a concern
for justice, and respect for God's creation?” “Academic freedom is not true
freedom if it becomes disconnected from the truth, especially in societies
where secularist ideologies drive a wedge between truth and faith.”
Election Prayer To The Blessed Mother
O most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this
most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to Thy
loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg Thee to reclaim this land for the glory
of Thy Son. Over whelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to
Thee from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in Thy motherly protection.
Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds
to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany
human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion.
Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on
which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our
cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the
“culture of death,” and lead us into a new Millennium of Life. Trusting in Thy
most powerful intercession, we pray:
“Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help, or sought Thy
intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto Thee, O
virgin of virgins, our Mother. To Thee do we come, before Thee we stand, sinful
and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despite not our
petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer us. Amen. –Prayer From EWTN-
For Your Information
A group: of Catholic Faithful in our Archdiocese is challenging
the governing Board of Trustees at the University of St. Thomas
regarding the Board’s covert deposing of incoming Archbishop Neinstedt, by voting to maintain former Archbishop Flynn on
the board past his “due date,” thereby preventing the new Archbishop from
taking his rightful place on the Board of St. Thomas.
The group would like to have a public discussion of the matter with at least
the head of the University. An article appeared in the local newspapers on
Sunday, April 28th regarding this challenging.
An Extraordinary Film: titled, “The Human Experience” is perhaps one of the
most powerful pro-life presentations ever made regarding the dignity of the
human person regardless of the circumstances of his life. The film is produced
by two brothers who present three different life-situations; the two brothers
live on the streets of New York
for a week and meet other homeless people. The second presentation is a visit
to a hospital for cast-off children in Lima,
Peru, children
from abusive families and severe poverty with terrible injuries from beatings
and neglect. The third presentation is their visit to a leper colony in Ghana. In each
case, the human condition touches the heart, and the viewer understands that
these are irreplaceable and invaluable human beings in extraordinarily
difficult life circumstances. For a clip, see: www.grassrootsfilms.com
April 18, 2008: was the date the movie, “Expelled,” was shown in
theaters. It is a series of interviews by the actor/writer/satirist Ben Stein,
who wants to know why so many scientists who would like to see “Intelligent
Design” have lost their jobs after bringing the subject up in front of peers.
It would seem that there is no room in the field of science…for science. After
all, science is about discussing the possibilities of what makes the universe.
The film is very much worth seeing: for a clip of the film, go to: www.expelledthemovie.com/playgroundvideo3.swf
May 6, 2008: The movie, “Bella” is coming out on DVD and can be
pre-purchased: Click
here to buy the Bella DVD. The movie is a strong pro-life statement in
favor of adoption.
San Giovanni Rotondo: The
incorrupt body of Saint Padre Pio has been made available to the public for veneration,
although it is not known if this will be the Saint’s permanent resting place,
or if he will eventually be re-buried.
Rosalind Moss: is starting a new order of sisters later this year,
to be known as, “Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope.” The focus of the
group will be evangelization and contemplation. The order has already has been
given permission by Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis to establish the group in that
city.
A Website: with facts and information regarding the link between
breast cancer and abortion, can be found at: www.abortionbreastcancer.com
should you know anyone who might benefit from the information offered.
Graduating Students: at St. Thomas
School of Law are required to perform 50 hours volunteer public service in the
community in order to graduate. However, Dean Thomas Mengler,
head of St. Thomas School of Law, has refused to accept volunteer hours that
were performed at Planned Parenthood, stating, “This is incompatible with St.
Thomas Catholic identity and cannot be counted towards the required ‘public
service hours.’” Congratulations to Dean Mengler for
his stand in difficult times. –CPO-
A Study In Canada: that was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology,
found that those men and youth engaging in homosexual activity were shortening
their lives by 8 to 20 years, in other words, their lifespan will be the same
as men in 1871. (note that smoking shortens lives an average of 10 years) A
comment was made that wondered why this warning was not placed on condom
wrappers. Additionally, homosexual behavior has led to a rate of Hepatitis B
six times greater, and Hepatitis C twice as high as those who do not engage in
that behavior. Although the homosexual community accounts for only 1-2% of the
population, homosexual men account for a whopping 64% of syphilis cases.(Center
for Disease Control) The article, published by LifeSiteNews,
pondered if it was criminally reckless for educators to teach children that
homosexual conduct is a normal, safe and perfectly acceptable alternataive form of sexual expression. –LifeSiteNews/CPO-
Our Episcopal Brethren: under the leadership of Reverend Samuel Johnson, has
dismissed 22 priests from the Diocese of Florida on March 25th, for
their “abandonment of the communion of this church” in their insistence of
accepting homosexual behavior for clergy, for the blessing of same-sex rites,
and for having moved beyond the bounds of Scripture by endorsing behavior that
endangers their souls and the those of their parishioners.
From The Vatican
Five Cardinals: have petitioned Pope Benedict XVI to declare a fifth
Marian dogma to proclaim the Blessed Virgin Mary as, “The Spiritual Mother of
All Humanity, the Co-redemptrix with Jesus the
Redeemer, Mediatrix of All Graces with Jesus the One
Mediator, and Advocate With Jesus Christ on Behalf of the Human Race.” –Zenit-
November 4-6, 2008: A Catholic-Muslim Conference will take place at the Vatican with
the themes for discussion being, “Love of God-Love of Neighbor,” “Theological
and Spiritual Foundations,” and “Human Dignity and Mutual Respect.” The group
will be made up of 24 religious scholars and religious leaders representing the
Catholic point of view, and 24 scholars and leaders from the Moslem
perspective. The Pope will not attend these discussions, but will meet with
leaders when the meetings have concluded.
On February 29th: the Vatican
reaffirmed that any baptism using the “Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier”
formula, must be re-performed using the Biblical text the Church has always
followed; “In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
May 21-22, 2008: Holy
Family Adoption Agency is sponsoring their annual garage sale at the Anoka County
Fairgrounds, 3112 St. Francis Blvd on Wednesday, May 21st from 9:00
am to 8:00 pm, and Thursday, May 22nd from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Donated items may be dropped off on Monday, May 19th from 8:00 am to
7:00 pm, furniture only with prior approval, and no TV’s or computers.
Volunteers are needed. For information, call Gerrie Soine at 763-421-8917. Your prayers are requested for a
successful sale.
May 31, 2008: The 12th Annual
Walk For Life, sponsored by the Women’s Life
Care Center
in Little Canada, is being held at Phalen
Park in St. Paul from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with
registration beginning at 9:00 am. For information, call: 651-777-1350.
New Mexico, Albuquerque:
Professional photographer, Elaine Huguenin, has been
taken to court by two lesbians whose “commitment ceremony” she refused to
photograph on the grounds of religious disagreement. An expanded discrimination
law in that state is being used claiming “sexual orientation” and “gender
identity” are included in that discrimination. If convicted, Miss Huguenin may actually have to pay damages to the
plaintiffs.
Washington, Seattle:
Under the leadership of Dr. Theresa Deisher, AVM
Biotechnology (as in Ave Maria) intends to development treatments and vaccines
that do not use embryonic stem cells or aborted fetuses. This researcher, who
has 23 patents, is a very hopeful promise for the future of what can be
ethically accomplished in the medical field.
Washington, DC:
US Health and Human Services Secretary, Mike Leavitt, has come out in support
of physicians who do not want to either perform abortions or to refer patients
elsewhere to have an abortion performed. His statement was made in reference to
the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists, who recently stated the organization was endorsing a viewpoint
to the contrary. However, Mr. Leavitt cited a 1973 law, and stated that he had
concerns that the ACOG could discriminate by using a physician’s record on this
issue to determine board certification.
Ontario, Toronto:
The Province of Ontario is being forced to close over
300 schools because there simply are not enough children any longer to fill
them. The number of students has dropped a staggering 90,000 students in the
last eight years, an enrollment drop of twenty-five percent. It is likely that
this situation is due to birth control and abortions in that country.
Louisiana, New Orleans:
President Bush met with Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican
President Felipe Calderon regarding the “Security and Prosperity Partnership of
North America “(SSP) (individual sovereign countries are not named, only the
continent) to further the progress of the SPP, which originated in March, 2005
in Waco, Texas. It has since brought together 50 top business leaders from the US, Canada
and Mexico
to set regional policies that will govern trade, security, environment, food,
health and energy. It is believed that the meeting intends to form a North
American Union similar to the European Union, although the three leaders deny
the accusation. Yet the United States took complete military control of Canada
after 9/11 under the name “Northcom” meaning,
“Northern Command,” which extends from the Canadian Arctic Territories, the
United States, Mexico and parts of the Caribbean. –The

Minnesota:
The Legislature has decided to embrace National Identification, known as REAL
ID, although the states of New Hampshire, Maine, South Carolina
and Montana have
refused. The Federal government is threatening to withdraw Federal funding to
those states that do not comply by May 11th. The REAL ID will be
issued via driver’s license renewal, and is intended to contain such
information as birth, school, employment, medical, financial, purchases and
travel records. Those who refuse to comply will not be permitted to board an
airplane, rent a car, or open a bank account. Everyone born in the US after 1964
must have one before 2014, and those born before 1964 must have one by 2017. In
the future, anyone without a National ID would not be permitted to hold a job,
enter school, or receive medical care. A state would be required to link their
data bases containing these records, into the data bases of all other states, and
also into a National Database that begun on February 4, 2008 by the FBI, which
would like to include eye scans and palm prints also. Concerns include the
question of tracking people where ever they go in a “surveillance society.” Some of this has already been tested in the
cities of Fallujah and Baghdad,
where citizens must pass through a series of checkpoints having their biometric
information encoded on their identification cards, including fingerprints, and
iris scans, which are scanned by security forces. –The

Medjugorje Monthly Message
April 25, 2008:
"Dear children! Also today, I call all of you to grow
in God's love as a flower which feels the warm rays of spring. In this way,
also you, little children, grow in God's love and carry it to all those who are
far from God. Seek God's will and do good to those whom God has put on your
way, and be light and joy. Thank you for having responded to my call."
Meet Our New Saints
Manuel Lozano Garrido: known as
Lolo, was born in Spain
in 1920 and worked for several newspapers, and was known through the Associated
Press. As a youth, he carried the Blessed Sacrament in secret during the
Spanish Civil War. He was a member of Catholic Action and worked for a number
of Spanish Catholic periodicals and won the Bravo Journalists Award. In 1942 he
contracted spondylitis, whose deformity left him an
invalid. But he went on to found “Sinai,” a magazine for the ill. He was
completely blind during the last 10 years of his life, and still dictated nine
books to his sister and friends. He is being credit for a “scientifically
inexplicable cure” for healing a two year old child who was in multiple organ
failure from sepsis. Manual Garrido has currently
been approved as displaying “heroic virtue,” and is being held up as an example
for journalists everywhere.

Prayer Intentions From The Holy Father
For May,
2008
General
Intentions:: That Christians may use
literature, art and the media to greater advantage
to favor a culture which defends
and promotes the values of the human person.
Mission Intentions: That just as she accompanied the Apostles in the early stages of the Church,
may the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Star of Evangelization and Queen of Apostles, continue to guide
missionaries throughout the world with maternal affection.
Prayer Opportunities And
Retreats
May 1-10, 2008: Please join in a Worldwide Pentecost Novena Prayer
from the Feast of the Ascension on May 1,st to Pentecost on May 10th
for The Renewed Descent Of The Holy Spirit In Our Day. The Prayer is as
follows:
Our world
is in great danger. It is under constant threat from unprecedented acts of
terrorism and war, disasters of nature, economic crises, mass hunger, moral
decline, attacks on human rights and the sanctity of human life.
As people
of faith, we know we are engaged in a colossal battle between the Gospel of
Life and the “culture of death.” We are deeply concerned, but not without hope.
More and more people realize that our world needs conversion. More and more
people realize that our efforts alone will not be enough. We need the help of
heaven.
As the
great feast of Pentecost approaches, this is the opportune time for a mass
appeal to the Lord to send again and anew His Holy Spirit over our wounded
world.
This is
the time to gather around Mary, as the Apostles did in the Upper Room 2,000
years ago, in praying for a New Pentecost in our day. We share the deep
inspiration that the Lord entrusted our time and our world in a special way to
the Immaculate Heart of His Mother. Remembering her promises, we make an urgent
call on her motherly advocacy. Through the power of her maternal intercession
as Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix,
and Advocate, the Lord will work miracles and send His Holy Spirit.

A New Book: by Madeline Nugent titled, My Child, My Gift: A
Positive Response To Serious Prenatal Diagnosis, was written to aid parents
of pre-born children with seriously diagnosed disabilities. The book could be
given to parents from a friend also. See: http://www.mychildmygift.com.
Belgium,
Brussels: In 2002, Belgium
legalized assisted suicide for those with “considerable mental or physical
pain. Now a bill has been introduced to extend so-called “right” to the children who may be terminally
ill, and to people with severe dementia who cannot make their own decisions.
Cardinal Danneels of Belgium, spent his sermon at Easter
to condemn euthanasia, stating, “Avoiding suffering is no act of bravery; our
society seems unable to cope with death and suffering,” He rightly stated that
the media was “glorifying” assisted suicide.
California, San Francisco: San Francisco Catholic Archbishop George Niederauer is poised to give the “Loaves and Fishes” award
for “outstanding philanthropic works that epitomize the spirit of the faith
traditions of charity and generosity,” to George Marcus. The problem is, Mr.
Marcus helped finance Proposition 73 in that state, a measure that blocks
parents from being informed when their teenage daughters are considering an
abortion. Mr. Marcus also supported the state referendum that opened the doors
of the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine which uses billions of
taxpayer dollars for embryonic stem cell research. The California Catholic
Daily newspaper sent a letter to the Archdiocese, asking the Archbishop to
select another recipient, but to date, no response has been forthcoming.
England,
London:
Lord Patel, the chairman of the National Stem Cell Network in the United Kingdom and Chancellor at Dundee University
stated to Scotsman Newspapers that embryonic stem cell research is simply not
working, and that it may never deliver the new treatments for diseases that it
had hoped.
Kansas, Olathe: Several months ago Ronald Brock drove a truck into Olathe, Kansas,
was threatened by a police officer that he would be arrested and his vehicle
would be impounded, and that he “must leave the city of live with the results.”
Since that time, the Chief of Police has apologized to Mr. Brock, stating that
she believes his actions fall under the safety of 1st Amendment
rights of free expression. The officer involved has been placed on
administrative leave pending an investigation.
Luxembourg’s: Prime Minister
Jean-Claude Juncker met with the Holy Father in Vatican City where the topic was Luxembourg’s becoming the third country in
Europe to embrace legalized euthanasia, after Holland
and Belgium.
A bill was voted through Luxembourg’s legislature for a first time, and a
second voting must take place before it becomes law in the country of nearly
half a million people, 887% of whom are Catholic. –National Catholic Register-
Massachusetts, Boston: There is remarkable news from the Whitehead
Institute for Biomedical Research where created embryonic-like stem cells were
“reprogrammed” to become “pluripotent” stem cells,
which have essentially all the features of human embryonic stem cells. These
cells were successful in significantly reducing symptoms of Parkinson’s in
laboratory rats, and found that the cells were able to replace lost or damaged
neurons. This is really remarkable.
Michigan, Detroit: Jack Kevorkian is planning to run for a
Congressional seat from his hometown of Detroit,
and is in the process of obtaining the 3000 necessary signatures for his
candidacy. He intends to run as an Independent, with a focus on legalization of
assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Minnesota, St. Paul: Governor Tim Pawlenty has
appointed pro-life attorney, Eric Magnuson, as the next chief justice of
the Minnesota Supreme Court. He will be replacing Chief Justice Russell
Anderson who is retiring from the Court in June.
Minnesota, St. Paul: The Minnesota House Housing Policy & Finance
& Public Health Finance Committee removed nearly all the financing that was
to be used for alternative resources and support for low-income pregnant women,
although this financial cut was the only
cutback the committee made. This can only be seen as an attack on alternatives
to abortion, and an intent to force low-income women into having abortions.
Netherlands, Amsterdam: Psychiatrist Boudewijn
Chabot, who aided a grieving mother that ultimately led to the Dutch Supreme
Court ruling that the depressed should have the right to kill themselves, has
now published a do-it-yourself guide to commit suicide, because the
psychiatrist believes people have the right to make their own decisions about
ending their lives. In that country, approximately 4,400 people take their
lives every year under the euthanasia laws there.
Oregon, Salem: State officials from Oregon released a report on the
status of assisted suicide in that state and found that the number of deaths
were up. Eighty five people received the drugs from their physicians, and forty
nine people had their doctors aid them in their deaths. Most unfortunate is
that not one single person who took his life had been referred for any kind of
psychiatric or psychological evaluation prior to being issued the drugs; it was
“death on demand.”
Rhode Island, Bristol: Supreme Court Justice, Antonin
Scalia, in speeches given to law students at Roger Williams University and at
the University of Central Missouri, that there is NO legal right to an abortion
found in the Constitution, and that, under the 10th Amendment, this
matter is to be decided by the States, not the courts.
Texas, Waco: In Texas,
Pro-Life Waco has a mounted billboard stating, “What? An Abortion Increases My
Risk For Breast Cancer?” and asks why the Susan G. Komen
Foundation contributes to Planned Parenthood. The pro-life organization is
being criticized by the local pro-abortion newspaper. Last year the
organization gave at least $700,000 to Planned Parenthood.
Washington, DC: Many years ago Pat Layton wrote a Bible-based book
titled, Surrendering the Secret:
Healing the Heartbreak of Abortion. This post-abortion Bible study
will now be distributed through the Christian bookstore chain, Lifeway. It is believed that approximately 1/3 of all women
will have an abortion during their lifetime.
Washington, DC: Pro-life minister James Dobson stated, on Fox News Hannity and Colmes, that he hopes
Senator McCain will oppose embryonic stem cell research because the Senator
cannot be fully pro-life without doing so.
Washington, DC: Senator Robert Menendez has reintroduced a bill
titled, “Stop Deceptive Advertising For Women’s Services Act,” that amounts to
an attack crisis pregnancy centers nationwide. He charges that these centers
are giving women misleading information on abortion risks and alternatives. If
passed, the Federal Trade Commission would become involved, creating and
enforcing rules to prohibit deceptive practices, practices which are not even
used by the centers.
