House votes down a true ban on human cloning, supports killing of human embryos

State Representatives ignore better alternatives that do not destroy human life

ST. PAUL — In a callous display of disregard for nascent human life, the Minnesota House of Representatives today voted 62-68 against a ban on human cloning and embryo-killing research.  The vote advances the deadly Kahn Cloning Bill, S.F. 100, which legalizes human cloning and forces taxpayers to pay for the destruction of human life on a scale never before seen in Minnesota.

“House members today had a chance to do the right thing and protect vulnerable human life, but instead they chose to treat human life as mere raw material for experimentation,” said Andrea Rau, MCCL legislative associate.  “Citizens are outraged to see their taxes being spent on such unjust treatment of human life.”

State representatives were given two options during today’s House session.  They could vote to support the Kahn Cloning Bill or to support alternative language that promoted ethical adult stem cell research and provided a true ban on human cloning.

House members chose to vote in favor of the bill authored by Rep. Phyllis Kahn, DFL-Minneapolis, that provides taxpayer funding for the destruction of human embryos for experiments and also the wanton creation and destruction of human life through cloning at the University of Minnesota.

The deadly Kahn Cloning Bill and also requires the U of M to kill all cloned human beings or face felony charges.  The bill would allow millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to be used to kill living human embryos.

Pro-life Gov. Tim Pawlenty issued a statement in opposition of the Kahn Cloning Bill.  In a letter to all 201 state legislators, the governor urged lawmakers to support ethical adult stem cell research, which has produced proven lifesaving research without the destruction of human life.

“The University of Minnesota’s own breakthrough last year—producing new healthy heart tissue from adult stem cells in rats—demonstrates our potential to lead the nation in adult stem cell research,” Pawlenty explained.  “I support stem cell research and look forward to working with the Legislature to fashion legislation that will facilitate scientific advancement within ethical boundaries and enable many to receive therapeutic treatments.”A vote on final passage of the Kahn Cloning Bill, S.F. 100, is expected soon. A Second Action Alert:  is being issued regarding the State of California, whose legislature passed a bill that essentially terminates homeschooling by requiring that all children who are homeschooled must have a teacher who has a degree and is certified by the State. Iraq, Mosul: A special request for prayers is being made for the Chaldean Archbishop of Mosul, Paulos Rahho, who was kidnapped as he left Holy Spirit Cathedral in Mosul, Iraq on February 29th.  His captors are demanding $1.8 million dollars for his return. The Archbishop, who was head of the Chaldean Church in Iraq, is not in good health.  UPDATE: The body of the Archbishop was found in a shallow grave the week of March 9th, and his funeral followed that same week. The Mid-Eastern news did not state whether the Archbishop was murdered or if his death was due to the effects of his captivity on his poor health. This crime was virtually unreported by the mainstream media although it is a major news story occurring in the Mid-East.

From Saint Faustina’s Notebook II, General Resolutions (861)

-although these were goals for a new year, they apply to

anyone at anytime who is interested in spiritual growth-

*Interior Silence

*To see the image of God in everyone

*To do the will of God faithfully at every moment

*Ask myself, “What if He were to call me today?”

*Look for God within my own being, to abide with Him alone

*In sufferings and torments, be silent and take refuge in the tabernacle

*Join all sufferings, prayers and works to the merits of Jesus to obtain mercy for the whole world

The presence of God is the basis of all my thoughts, words and deeds

To put myself (my self love)last, to perform my spiritual exercises and duties as though I were doing them for the last time.

Do You Know Your Prayers

Regina Coeli

-For The Easter Season-

Queen of Heaven, Rejoice, Alleluia.

For He Whom Thou didst merit to bear, Alleluia,

Hath risen as He said. Alleluia.

Pray for us to God, Alleluia.

L) Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary! Alleluia.

R) Because Our Lord is truly risen. Alleluia.

Let us pray: O God, who by the resurrection of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,

Has been pleased to make glad the whole world, grant we beseech Thee, that,

Through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain

The joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Education

The State of California: recently passed, and the Governor signed, a bill that demands a re-definition of marriage and family, and amends the education code so that “No teacher instruction and no school activity can reflect or promote a discriminatory bias against any person…who is homosexual, bisexual or transgender.”

Massachusetts, Boston: A Federal Appeals Court consisting of three judges, issued a ruling that parents have no say in the curriculum of public schools in the matter of teaching pro-homosexual programs. One point at issue was the book King And King which centers on a prince who wants to marry the princess’s brother rather than the princess. The parents who are objecting the teaching of such curriculum intend to take their case to the State Supreme Court.

The National Education Association: (NEA) and the American Psychological Association (APA) have linked up to publish a booklet titled, “Just The Facts About Sexual Orientation And Youth,” WHICH THEY INTEND TO DISTRIBUTE TO EVERY SUPERINETNDENT IN AMERICA’S 16,000 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. The book contends that homosexuality is a “normal expression of human sexuality” and tells teachers not to discuss religious-based views that homosexuality is a condition that can be changed. This kind of leaning to the far left is becoming more prevalent in the NEA, which initially called homosexuality a “mental disorder” to now radically promoting homosexuality in the public classroom. Sadly, the NEA is supported by the dues of teachers throughout the United States. For information on this booklet, go to: www.frc.org

Since 1960: an estimated 71% of the growth in the Catholic Church in the United States has been in the Latino community. A recently formed organization has come together in that community; known as, “the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders,” they state to promote the sanctity and dignity of life, Marriage and family life, encourage Catholic faith and education, promote vocations, as well as “bring to mainstream America the blessings of the integration of faith and culture found in Latino culture.” –CatholicNewsService-

February 14th: was the Fifth Annual Day of Purity where students in America reach out to their peers, wear t-shirts and wristbands and distribute fliers, to aid their friends, so many of whom feel pressured to have sex which can lead to abortions and sexually transmitted diseases. The group hopes to counteract pressure from other peers and society found in risque television shows and commercials, vulgar jokes, and graphic movies. Having sex prior to marriage is has devastating. Congratulations to these youth who care about their fellow man. For information on the Day of Purity, see: http://www.dayofpurity.org

The American Heritage Girls: organization was recently founded as an alternative to the Girl Scouts organization, which many have abandoned due to their teaching their young followers about pro-abortion education, pro-homosexual stances, and pro-New Age agenda. The group now has over 1800 troops in 12 States, and is focused on building the integrity of women through service to God, family, community and country.  -TheWanderer-

From The Vatican

April 2-4, 2008: For the first time, the Holy Father will host a World Apostolic Congress on Mercy in Rome, which includes a Pontifical Mass, special events, and world renowned spiritual leaders on the life-changing mystery of Divine Mercy, and what it means in our troubled times.

January, 2008:  Pope Benedict XVI, in an address to the Paris Academy of sciences and Pontifical Academy of sciences, cautioned against the seductive powers of science when he said, “Scientific investigation should be accompanied by research into anthropology, philosophy and theology to give insight into man’s own mystery, because no science can say who man is, where he comes from, or where he is going. It is imperative to educate contemporary consciences so that science does not become the criteria for goodness.” –NationalCatholicRegister-

May 4, 2008: is the date scheduled for the 42nd World Communications Day, whose theme will be, “The Media: At the Crossroads Between Self-Promotion and Service, Searching for the Truth in Order to Share It With Others.” Pope Benedict XVI stated clearly that, “Those working in the media have a moral duty to disseminate the truth.” Vatican spokesman, Father Lombardi, stated, “Too many times the media seems to claim not simply to represent reality, but to determine it, owing to the power and the power of suggestion that they possess. Media is not to create events, amplify their importance or manipulate their correct interpretation, or impose particular interpretation for ideological purposes, economic and political interests. The word, spoken or written or expressed in images, is made for truth, not for division or deception. The question is whether the power of globalized communication should be used as an instrument of power or as an occasion to grow in knowledge.”  -NationalCatholicRegister-

Bishop Elio Sgreccia: President of the Pontifical Academy for Life stated that the recent advances in adult stem cell research where, adding four genes to human skin cells that genetically match the donor and have the ability to become any type of cell in the human body, indicate that science can be ethical in its research.

In The Know About Our Times

LifeSiteNews: issued a horrific report that physicians in the Netherlands were openly admitting they were killing disabled newborn infants. The Hastings Center Report publication, which supposedly consists of “ethicists,” defended the practice and praised it as being “human and perfectly ethical.” This legalized murder is termed, “The Gronigen Protocol for Euthanasia” which is a series of guidelines outlined for the legal murder of newborns. World opinion differs from the opinions of The Hastings Center; one Italian Minister called it, “Nazism,” and others around the world call it disgusting. In a world set apart from God, how can we expect anything else, than man setting himself up to assume His domain.

Caution On Your Radio Dial: On January 1st Oprah Winfrey began a new program on her XM satellite radio program titled, “Oprah & Friends.” It is a year-long course of lessons on the New Age teachings outlined from the A Course In Miracles book written in 1965 by now-deceased Helen Schucman, a Columbia University Professor of Medical Psychology. Miss Schucman stated that these writings were dictated to her by a spirit guide, and supposedly are a new way of seeing Jesus.   However, goals of the course include the belief that there is no sin, no evil, no devil, and a God who is in everyone and everything. For example, Lesson #61 tells each participant to repeat the phrase, “I am the light of the world” (in reference to one-self) and Lesson #70 instructs the participant to repeat, “My salvation comes from me.” You are cautioned not to follow the Pied Piper, and to caution others who may believe this is a legitimate way of seeing oneself, or of seeing Jesus Christ.

Algeria: This North African country of 33 million residents, 99% of whom are Moslem, arrested and tried Father Pierre Wallez for joining in prayer with a group of Christians in that country. He was sentenced to a year in jail, with, fortunately, a suspended sentence. A young Muslim doctor was condemned to a harsher punishment of 2 years in prison without parole for using medicines that were paid for by Caritas charities. Although Algeria has declared Islam to be the state religion, supposedly the country has freedom of worship in their constitution. However, a new law composed of 17 articles prohibits the exercise of non-Islamic worship outside buildings approved by authorities with fines and imprisonment; this law was passed because the a number of evangelical groups were successfully converting Moslems. The new law now intends to prosecute anyone “who changes the original function of places of worship or incites or coerces or uses persuasive means to oblige a Muslim to embrace another religion.”

Washington, DC: The Heritage Foundation, the Family Research Council, the World Congress of Families, and the Latin American Alliance for the Family are releasing a new documentary titled, “World In Crisis: Under-population” which will chronicle the 50% decline of birthrates worldwide since 1950, stating that there are now 59 nations with 44% of the world’s population below replacement birthrates. This exposes the lie about overpopulation and the Al Gore “chicken little sky-is-falling” mentality.” What have we done to ourselves through the use of birth control and abortion?  See: Demographic Winter - http://www.demographicwinter.com

Russia: The Wall Street Journal reports that there are some 700 prison camps in that country and currently 50 of them are considered to be as seriously brutal as the Gulag under the old regime, with constant beatings and tortures, and many, many suicides as a result of the deplorable conditions. Under Yeltsen, there was a somewhat more humane approach, but now with Putin at the helm with a more tolerant attitude towards prisoners, these camps are being described as, “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.” It is feared that if this behavior or brutality is considered permissible, then it will expand into other camps. And one cannot help but wonder if the Russians ever did “change their spots.” For information, search YouTube for “Yekaterinaburg Prison Camp” where incidents have been filmed.
